Back To School: College Students Moving In!
August 19, 2010 by admin
Many college kids are now moving back to school, and if they are a sophomore, junior or senior then they already know the ropes about moving in. But the freshman are a whole other story.
The stories abound in the newspapers like the Washington Times about just stupid moving in blunders, like: a student at an unnamed college bring a semi full of possession to put into his dorm room…How in the hell did this kid get accepted to into college!? I hope that Geometry is not his major.
Anyway I thought that I would share on of the news article with you so as to help you move in your college students…and you may always call or email me for any moving advice you may need.
Here is that story:
Overdoing the dorm move-in
This is the week when thousands of college students move into the dorms. Most of them show up with a moderate car full (or two) of stuff. But then there are the epic mover-inners — college students who bring stuff that surprises residence hall directors and staffers who think they have already seen it all.
The Minneapolis Star-Tribune had a story this weekend about a frosh who showed up to his Minnesota college (that went unnamed) with a semi. This was the same student whose parents asked if they could send an interior designer to take measurements of the room and do a complete makeover — without asking for the roommate’s opinion.
It’s not the only odd move-in.
At Albright College in Pennsylvania, a student once hauled his dorm stuff in the family Winnebago. (Photo courtesy of Dave Johnson of Albright College.)
At Susquehanna University in Pennsylvania, a student tried moving a full-size refrigerator into his 14-foot-by-14-foot dorm room.
“I couldn’t help but ask him what he could possibly need it for, given the fact that the hall had only one small kitchenette with only a microwave and sink,” said Erica Stephenson, associate director of residence life. “I mean, he wasn’t going to be able to bake or anything, so what was he going to fill that refrigerator with? Oh, wait, I think I know.”
At the University of Iowa, massive flat-screen televisions have become the norm, according to the Associated Press.
At Birmingham-Southern College in Alabama, housing staffers have fielded lots of odd requests to alter on-campus apartments: One mother wanted to install sliding shower doors. Some have asked if they can re-upholster the dorm furniture. One parent wanted to remove the carpet and install hardwood floors. Lots of parents have hired maids.
Mansfield University in Pennsylvania has seen lots of students trying to sneak pets (ferrets, tarantulas, boa constrictors, you name it) into the halls. And highway signs are a popular dorm decoration.
At Sewanee: The University of the South in Tennessee, one student asked for permission to bring his own personal compact clothing dryer.
These examples are extreme, but there is a move-in crime that most students are guilty of: Bringing way too much stuff.
What not to pack:
Do not bring childhood mementos, like that first-grade trophy, advises the Oklahoma Daily.
Avoid bringing any more furniture, even an extra chair, because chances are it won’t fit, suggests the Sun Sentinel.
Don’t bring anything that might be forbidden — “pets, firearms, unsanctioned microwaves and hot plates, unsafe loft building materials, explosives, halogen lamps, illegal drugs, proof of extraterrestrial life, etc.,” says Jayce Scott of North Carolina State University.
Leave your book collection at home because you really won’t have much time to read during the semester, and “no one will care that you read Ayn Rand in high school,” advises Andy Boyle of the St. Petersburg Times.
Skip anything that you don’t use all of the time, the Star Tribune suggests. “Most dorms barely have enough storage space for oft-needed items. Skis, golf clubs and the sousaphone are best left at home. … If you have to choose between an ironing board or an Xbox, go with the latter.”
Have you seen anything ridiculous hauled into a dorm? Any tips for what not to bring to campus? Let me know in the comments.

M & M Professional Moving Complaints
August 19, 2010 by admin
M & M Professional Moving was starting to impress me, but recently all I am hearing is complaint after complaint. I have received two complaints on this company in less than 24 hours.
M & M Professional Moving is owned by Michael Denski. They are out of Warren Michigan. Michael was starting to do the right things with his company. They lad an official business name with their city. And they had DOT numbers…but it turns out that they are just completely hogwash and ruse to get more business. Typical actions from a moving scam company.
They are also continuing their affiliation with A Better Move a notorious moving company from the same area. Between these two companies I have received the most negative comments.
Here I am go to list some of the complaints that I have gotten on them:

August 19, 2010 at 4:37 pm (Edit)Worst moving experience ever! We hired them to load our 16ft rental truck. We had hardly any furniture and a lot of boxes. Should be an easy and quick load, right? They took over five hours! We were supposed to have 3 guys working for us. One was the “boss” and he didn’t do anything except sit on his butt and talk on his cell phone. One was an old guy with an obvious bad back, and he was slower than molasses> I also caught him smoking in an upstairs bedroom during one of the numerous “breaks” he took. The other mover was a young guy who mostly stayed in the truck arranging the load and didn’t do much else. I also caught him taking numerous “breaks” and not doing anything.
Do not hire this company! They are a rip-off!

August 16, 2010 at 5:22 pm (Edit)Michael Denski’s M&M Professional Moving is absolutely NOT a reputable company. Their drivers were 3 hours late to start with and then they overcharged me by an hour, which, shame on me, I did not notice until AFTER I had TIPPED them and they had left. The worst, though, is that my 1 year old table was scratched big time during the move, right on top. When I pointed it out to the guys, they said to make sure that I called the insurance number on the invoice form. There turned out to be no number on the form, so I called owner Michael Denski. He said he would send someone out to work on it for me, but the person never showed up and never even called. So, I called Michael Denski back and he said that they (I guess Denski’s crew….since supposedly they have been in business for 13 years – – yeah right!) would come and get my table to take it to have it worked on, but once again, no one showed up. I have left a message every day for about a month now and Michael has not returned any of my calls.
Also, I did not know that my elderly neighbor had spoken to one of the movers during my move and engaged them to help her daughter move that following week. I found out that they tacked on a bunch of fuel charges that she was never told about and they demanded a tip from her as well. I suppose they would have done that to me if I hadn’t have been stupid enough to give it in the first place.
DO NOT USE M&M PROFESSIONAL MOVING!!!! AND, IF YOU DO, EXPECT TO GET CHARGED MORE THAN AGREED TO AND DO NOT EXPECT ANYTHING FROM THEM AFTER PAYMENT IF ANY DAMAGE OCCURS. I PERSONALLY WILL BE WATCHING FOR THEM ON CRAIGSLIST AGAIN TO WARN PEOPLE.
Kelly says:
April 24, 2010 at 12:39 pm (Edit)M M Moving is NOT a reputable company! I would advise everyonr [SIC] to BEWARE of them. Last Saturday they moved my family. There quote said nothing about fuel charges or insurance charges. I have a 55′ big screen that I gladly paid the extra insurance on only to have them drop it – the casing is cracked and the picture now has big black lines running through it. I called them several times before Michael finally agreed to send someone out to look at it – did he – NO! I have called several times every day but he is avoid my calls. This company is a total scam – stay away from them.
Another interesting tidbit about this company; most of the complaints that I get on this company come from women. Are they singling out the women because they think they are weaker or can be intimidated easier? You’ll have to be the judge on that one.
Just thought you should have the info.
Good luck with your move.

U-Save Moving And Storage Graded “B+” With BBB.

Filed under Moving News, Moving Tips and Advice
Many of you know from reading this website that I have a “love/hate” relationship with the Better Business Bureau (BBB). You can read my articles as to why that is for yourself. This about U-Save Moving and Storage’s “B+” grade with the BBB.
That’s right folks…we have a B+ grade with the BBB. Not too shabby.
How come we don’t have an “A” you ask? Hahaha…very good question. And the answer is very simple.
We don’t have an “A” simply because we are not card carrying members of the BBB. Yep, that’s right. The only reason U-Save Moving and Storage doesn’t have an “A” grade with the BBB is only because we have not paid hundreds of dollars to be an “accredited member” of the BBB.
If and when we decide to pay for membership in the BBB our grade will raise to an “A”. But until then you’ll just have to settle with our ABOVE average “B+” grade.
So now you know that even the BBB thinks that U-Save Moving and Storage is a great moving company.

Corey Is A Moving Scammer!

A little while ago I did an article on Craigslist Moving Scammers. This guy Corey was named. He keeps posting on Craigslist stating that he has the cheapest prices. And while that may be true you get what you pay for when it comes to moving.
Of course when I reported on Corey being a moving scammer he screamed blue murder. Yet it seems that my assessment has come true.
(You can click here to see my report on Corey.)
It seems yesterday (July 20, 2010) there was a report on Craigslist from a a very dissatisfied customer. Apparently, this guy scheduled Corey to do a move and Corey just never showed up, leaving the guy hanging and in trouble…
You can see the exact post below:
enclosed trailer mover is a no call no show! DO NOT USE (flint)
I spoke with corey who has the 14×7 enclosed trailer on here that advertises moving services. he was supposed to come and move my stuff the next day because i needed to be out by the following day. HE WAS A NO CALL NO SHOW. I TRIED CALLING HIM AND LEFT MESSAGES AND HE NEVER RETURNED MY CALL.
DO NOT CALL OR USE HIM. HE WILL MOST LIKELY LEAVE YOU HANGING LIKE HE DID WITH ME.
THANKFULLY ANOTHER SERVICE I FOUND ON HERE…ROCS DELIVERY, CAME THAT VERY NIGHT AT 8PM TO MOVE MY STUFF AND WAS VERY WELL PRICED.
IF YOU ARE MOVING, I WOULD DEF NOT RECOMMEND THE PERSON WITH THE ENCLOSED TRAILER…FOR YOUR REFERENCE HIS POSTING IS http://flint.craigslist.org/lbs/1850751500.html
click here for the actual ad on Craigslist…assuming it hasn’t been flagged.
First off, a 14 x 7 trailer is NOT a moving vehicle. You cannot load a lot of furniture and household possessions on one of those. And to move with a trailer such as this requires multiple trips. Corey knows this. This is why he charges so low in the first place.
He knows that he can charge low because the move will take longer than it would with a professional mover, but the cost will still be about the same. He also can charge low because he is NOT licensed and insured.
How do I know this, because Corey told this to me personally over the phone. He called me after I wrote about him on this website of him being a moving scammer. Do you know what he said to me? He said “So what if I have to make multiple trips. I make just as much or more by doing it this way as you.”
If that is not an admission of a moving scammer I don’t know what is.
So heed my words, but if you don’t, then at least listen to the guy above that was left hanging by this loser and stay away from Corey.

The Best Battle Creek Movers Ever!

So about a week ago Irv Krick from East Leroy calls me up. He wants to know if we would be available and how much it would cost him to hire the best Battle Creek movers in Michigan (okay, so I added that last part.) Of course I give him our availability and our moving rates. And he hires us to help him out.
Apparently, he had a whole bunch of friends that said that they would help him move, but had to back out at the last minute. I can’t tell you how often this happens to our customers.
This is a simple (or was supposed to be) a labor only job, because they already had a moving truck rented with U-Haul. So all we had to do was load and unload it. The job ended up being over 12 hours long, and we had to make 2 trips with a 26 ft moving truck fully loaded each time…and we still couldn’t get everything.
But you can see from the video below that Irv and his wife were very happy with our services.

Movers Arrested For Assualt

You have to be very careful who you hire to move you. Rogue movers especially will hire the dregs of society. There are many instances where rogue movers have been found to have hired sex offenders, thieves, murders etc. And you have to remember these people will know where you live and what kind of possessions you have. Do really want to have that kind of person move you? I know I wouldn’t.
Well here is a recent news article you may find interesting. It is a story of how two moving laborers attacked their foreman after they broke a customers furniture.
Well here it is:
Movers charged after beating
Broken furniture leads to jail trip for movers
Date published: 7/1/2010
BY KEITH EPPS
An incident that started with a dropped dresser ended with two movers in jail, Stafford authorities said.
Sheriff’s spokesman Bill Kennedy said Deputy Brian Miller went to the Hampton Oaks subdivision Monday in response to a reported assault in progress.
He found a man sitting on a lawn on Brittany Lane holding a white towel to his bleeding head. Rescue workers were tending to him.
Kennedy said the victim was the foreman of a moving company crew. A co-worker told police that the attack began about 5 p.m. after two workers dropped a dresser, causing one of its legs to break off.
The foreman was aggravated and got more upset when the two workers began laughing, according to the police report. The foreman then called his manager and told him what had happened.
Kennedy said this infuriated the workers, who called the foreman a “snitch” and began pummeling him with their fists.
The victim picked up a hammer to defend himself but dropped the hammer and was beaten with a chain. The suspects then broke the victim’s phone before leaving the area.
The deputy found the suspects in the area of Mine Road and Northampton Boulevard. After talking with them, he took them into custody, Kennedy said.
Esteban Heredia, 50, of Brooklyn was charged with malicious wounding and vandalism.
Jesse Rasary, 44, of the Bronx was charged with assault. Both men were placed in the Rappahannock Regional Jail.
