Moving Company Rates

Moving company rates are determined by a lot of different factors, but mostly the are determined by 3 major factors.

  • The type of company you are using
  • The distance from one location to the other, and
  • The size of your .

Depending on the type of company that you are using is the biggest factor in determining . For instance there are 4 different types of companies to use for a . They are:

  1. Labor Services.
  2. .
  3. Long distance companies
  4. .

Labor Services: These types of moving companies provide labor only. They are not licensed and insured like full service or long distance companies. They are just for the heavy, manual labor that is needed to load or unload a truck or trailer. They usually charge by the hour with a travel fee and minimum time limit.

: These guys provide the full gamut of services, and depending on whether your is 40 miles or more they will charge either by the hour or by a flat fee (typically.)

: These are guys that are normally called upon when from state to state. Full service can also do this. charge based on a tariff which is usually based on weight of the possessions (sometimes on the volume as well.)

: These guys are not in the traditional sense of the word. They usually charge by the amount of feet that is used on the trailer. They usually have more than one household that they . You have to provide the labor to load and unload the trailer (or POD.)

So you can see that are determined by a set of different factors. Follow these steps in determining the that are right for you:

  1. Set a budget (be flexible as you will soon see.)
  2. Call up at least 3 to 5 full service or .
  3. Use my list of 20 questions for movers when getting a quote.
  4. Throw out the highest and lowest estimates.
  5. If possible, adjust your budget.
  6. If not possible, then call at least 3 to 5 .
  7. Call up 3 to 5 labor services and get quote for the load or unload if you need those services.
