Why are licensed and insured movers your best option?
Great question and it almost seems obvious as to the answer. But the fact remains that licensed and insured moving companies are your best option when moving, and this includes moving labor as well.
If you have been following this blog (and shame on you if you haven’t) then you know that I recently did a article where I laid out my results of an informal survey of moving company scams and those that commit them. I reported that 85% of the 127 companies that I investigated were in fact licensed moving companies. Truly that is alarming, and disspells the myth that only unlicensed moving companies commit moving scams.
While those results are very controversial I still keep my belief that licensed and insured movers are indeed your best moving option. And here is why:
- The have been vetted by both Federal and State Governments
- Their equipment has been inspected to be safe.
- Their personnel tend to be drug free.
- These companies usually have years of experience in the moving business
- They tend to be more professional.
- In general they have a low complaint level with the BBB and DOT.
I have found that the unlicensed moving companies tend to be less professional and that their equipment (meaning their trucks) are usually older and in disrepair. Don’t get me wrong, there are absolutely great moving companies that are not licensed, but as a whole you are looking at less professional companies.
If you find an unlicensed moving company that has a proven record of success and that has a fair price, then by all means use the company; just know that you are a greater risk with this company.
But if all things are equal between and unlicensed and licensed mover then I suggest that you go with the licensed mover.
