It is surprising to me the amount of people that get scammed or have a bad moving experience when they hire unprofessional, unreliable “movers” off Craigslist. There are many legitimate moving companies that promote their services on Craigslist (and Backpage and Kijiji) and there are many that are just bad movers or moving scams.
This article is going to attempt to show just a small collection of examples of moving scam ads on Craigslist.

So there you go. Just a small sampling of ads that I found on Craigslist that I suspect as being moving scammers or bad movers.
Here are just some of the indicators:
- No website listed.
- Only a first name, if any given
- Unprofessional email addresses
- Poor spelling
- Amateurish ads, or blantantly stating that they have only a pick up
Of course, if you use these people, you may have a good experience. But, THEY ARE NOT PROFESSIONALS, and the chances are you will have a horrible experince.
It is common knowledge that “you get what you pay for” with movers. Pay the better price you will get professional, licensed and insured movers; pay a discount or fly-by-nighters and you’ll get broken and stolen possessions, rude service or no service, etc.
Don’t fool yourself that you are getting a break. You are not. These guys will take you for a ride if given a chance.
